This is a tribute to the wonderful Kathy Bates in the Stephen King classic Misery (1990).Paul Sheldon is a very successful writer who has just finished his last of seven novels about a romantic heroine named Misery Chastain. He decides to move on and start on a new book, Fast Cars. But on his way to the airport he is caught in a bad snowstorm and swerves off the road. When he awakes he finds out that he was saved by ex-nurse Annie Wilkes. But he soon discovers that Annie is a complete psychopath who will stop at nothing to prevent Paul from ever escaping her home. This film is awesome and one of my all-time favourites. Annie Wilkes is by far the best villain. If you see the film you will understand just how much of a complete psychopath she is. I love her!The book is even better than the film, it has a lot more in it and goes into much detail. It is written from Paul's perspective (First Person). If you haven't read it, you should!

The movie had a more realistic touch than the book which I like, Annie crippling Paul's feet instead of slicing off one of them was more shocking in my opinion. I doubt losing a foot in that fashion is survivable let alone somebody severing your thumb. The part where she runs over a cop with a lawnmower was actually shot but the director removed it out of concern that the audience would find it comical, Kathy Bates was dissapointed by the scene's deletion.

I can imagine how creepy it must feel to wake up during the night to see Annie looking down at you! Her personality kept changing throughout the film, one minute she's the sweetest, most compassionate woman you could ever hope to meet and the next she's this sadistic psycho! Kathy Bates was the perfect choice to play this generally odd woman with an apparent split personality.
