Yes, they were the winners of the eventual civil war between several factions including the remnants of the former Afghan government. Yes our government did support them and turn a blind eye. They were still getting US funding until May 2001. Bush specifically gave them money for their abstinence only sex education.

The thing to understand though is that Jewish law only applies to Jews. Meaning "Thou shalt not kill" is the biblical equivalent of "Thou shalt not kill Jews." Killing Gentiles is completely legal and supported by Old Testament teachings. The Israelites are regularly told to kill anyone living in the promised land who is not a Jew, including their children.
