1972 - Written by Ewan MacColl 1957 Folk singer Ewan MacColl wrote this in 1957 for his wife, Peggy Seeger**. She was in a play and phoned him for suggestions on a song for a romantic scene. This was our first dance at our wedding a few years ago. We kept it quiet until the big day and it widely received as being a classed choice. Beats the old tired usual wedding songs. Despite all the covers (Leona anyone?) nothing gets near the original. Beautiful.

i heard this for the first time (no pun intended) from a movie...wow, she is amazing...this song is so fantastic it's hard to describe...but let me try...I'm in a great marriage...and the way I felt....from the beginning is the way i feel when i hear this song

The first time I ever heard this song, Celine Dion was singing it. I never heard this version until a few years later. But it holds special meaning to me because my dad cries whenever he hears it. He said the first time he ever heard it was when he was a little boy and his dad brought the record home to his mom. He said they listened to it together in their living room and it was the first time he ever witnessed them in an embrace.
