This was the first time I've ever heard him sing. So my first impression, was that he was more a lyric tenor than a spinto. But he doesn't seem to have any problems with verdi....of course as always it's a matter of taste, but i think we all agree that Pape is absolutely great here.best regards

Actually i was a bit rude and i appologise. I think it is very important to behave in this public forum, but some peole takes this too seriously and forget about good manners. What did you mean that he is not suitable for this kind of rep. Verdi generally, or just this Requiem? As Alfredo i found him one of the best i´ve heard, but again its a matter of taste, i´sn´t it?All the best!

yes I agree. hes great, but i dont know if hes the right voice for this repertoire. thats why i was astonished in the second part of his aria, when he really shows voice.btw: your comment wasn't rude at all. Good to see that some people on youtube know how to argue politely

I do not want to be rude but, did you listen at all, quite good?...in my mind he is one of the best lyric tenors in modern times. And i think many of here agrees ...? If you want hear who was the best, listen Pavarotti 1967 or 70 with Karajan. They all are great but this guy is awesome!

Pape is the leading bass in the world in my view; I was lucky enough to have been at this performance and also heard his King Henry at CG a few years later.

because a rene pape imitating ghiaurov would never be as good as rene pape imitating rene pape. and vice versa. being a singer, you got to look what you've got and then find your personal favorite interpretation. finally interpretation is subjective, as is the personal decision of loving or not a specific singer's interpretation. i personally do not think that ghiaurov's interpretation would be the nonplusultra.

cause tenors AND Basses are human! Depp!

Why do tenors not simply listen to a recording of how Bjorling sang it and forget about all their distracting and superflous interpretation crap? Why do bassi not simply listen to a recording of how Ghiaurov sang it and forget about their distracting and superflous interpretation crap?
