Since ARS was partially made up of former Classics 4 members, it isn't surprising they would cover this song. Although Dennis Yost's lead vocal outshines this one, arrangement-wise I like this version better.

I'm listening to Coast right now and heard it too! I was looking for the video to send to my fiancee because I was just singing this song to her the other day when we went to Wal-Mart! Must be that "energy" that I'm tapping into.

'Spooky' was written by Mike Sharpe, J.R. Cobb, & Buddy Buie, and originally performed by Classics IV. Buddy Buie bacame manager for Atlanta Rhythm Section, and J.R. Cobb (formerly of Classics IV) reprised the song in 1979 with Atlanta Rhythm Section. (The term 'sampled' is inappropriate to describe recordings from this era, as there was no such technology at that time :)
